It’s an exciting time in the Adidas world. Keeping in trend with the current 90’s retro nostalgic wave that’s been sweeping the industry, they’re re-introducing Dikembe Mutombo’s high top tribal printed kicks in several colorways, the first of which are slated to drop August 24th, 2013 and others are scheduled for release well into 2014.
Some of us sneaker heads were fortunate enough to have owned an original pair of these back in ‘92/’93, but for those of you who need a refresher course on the 90’s … here goes: Dikembe Mutombo was a 7’2” tall center who is still regarded today as one of the best shot blockers and defensive players ever, with defensive stats that have surpassed Kareem Abdul Jabbar. Today you may have seen him in recent Geico commercials blocking shots and doing his infamous finger wave. To make a long story short, he’s a defensive beast with sneakers that match the flare of his game, as well as represent his Nigerian decent with the tribal designs. Check the pictures below and get ready to step into the shoes of a 90’s legend.
If anyone attempts to question your swag … hit them with the Mutombo finger-wave and in your best Nigerian accent say, “No No No, Not in my house!”
