In a recent interview with Complex mag, LeBron James pulled no punches when it came to Detroit’s latest buzz worthy news: Miguel Cabrera’s contract extension. “I wish we didn’t have a salary cap,” James said. “The best players in each sport should be rewarded. It would be nice to sign a 10-year contract for $300 million dollars. I would do it. I would do it for sure.” LeBron also said that he would opt out of his current contract to get that type of deal this summer. However, Mr. James isn’t exactly filing for economic hardship anytime soon; thanks to his endorsement deals with McDonald’s, Nike and Coca-Cola, LeBron has clocked in a cool $42 million dollars in 2013 alone. Then, you tack on the $19 million dollars he made off his contract with the Heat and it comes out to estimate of well over $60 million dollars – nearly double what Cabrera could possibly make in one season under his new deal. So yeah, no sympathy party over here, sorry LeBron. Below gives us your input: what are your thoughts on this subject? Is LeBron James just another overrated and overpaid athlete, or is he justified in charging what is rightfully due? Feel free to leave us your thoughts and comments below.
