REEBOK QUESTION “#1 PICK”

For many people in the hip-hop/basketball/sneaker culture, 1996 was an incredibly memorable year. It was a notably an epic (which is a gross understatement) and tragic year in music. Jay-Z released Reasonable Doubt. Nas dropped his sophomore album, It Was Written. Ghostface Killah debuted as a solo artist with Ironman. Busta Rhymes also broke from LONS and liberated his solo album, The Coming. Outkast put Atlanta on the map with their sophomore album, ATLiens. However, on the other side of the country, Tupac Shakur was gunned down in Las Vegas. Immediately following his death, Death Row Records released his posthumous album, Don Makaveli: The 7 Day Theory. Coincidently, 1996 was also a great year for the NBA. The ’96 Draft class included future Hall of Fame players such as Marcus Camby, Stephon Marbury, Ray Allen, Steve Nash, and Kobe Bryant. But at the top of that talented group of super athletes, the Philadelphia 76ers were fortunate enough to draft a gifted, young point guard/shooting guard with a killer crossover out of Georgetown University by the name of Allen Iverson. That year, in addition to having a stellar breakout year, with the assistance and financial backing of Reebok, AI was awarded his first signature and now iconic shoe, the Reebok Question.

On August 23rd of this year, Reebok plans to celebrate AI’s 1996 rookie season with the release of the Reebok Question “#1 Draft Pick” in a new colorway. Featuring a royal blue nubuck upper and royal blue piping resting atop a white and blue speckled midsole, the sneaker is nicely contrasted with white laces. The letters “REEBOK” are spelled out on the individual eyelets. The translucent blue outsole contains a big blue Reebok logo. Other embroidered logos can be found on the side panels as well as the tongue in white. Reebok seems to be on a huge retro kick with the release of these as well as the Shaqnosis’ a few weeks ago. Look for the Questions at your local retailer as well as online.
